Cesar Rodrigues Art Exhibit & Fundraiser
Award-winning Worcester artist Cesar Rodrigues, known for his amazing abstract art using Assistive Technology, is supporting Easterseals Massachusetts with a raffle and fundraiser to help empower other artists with disabilities to make art. He has generously donated one of his works, Untitled 25, which was created early in his career as an artist. In addition, proceeds from purchases of Limited Edition prints of Untitled 25 will support this endeavor. Specifically, funds raised will assist in building painting machine prototypes for both Cesar and Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children. View the prototype below.
The public is invited to attend Cesar's art exhibit to see his works, where attendees may also purchase raffle tickets to win:
Untitled 25, shown on the right
Paper: Epson Hot Press Bright
Size: Print 20" x 34" (with frame 25" x 39")
Frame: Black wood with conservation clear glass
Value: $1,000
Edition: 1/3 Artist Proof
Abstract Art, Real Technologies - Art Exhibit & Fundraiser
Join us:
November 10, 2024, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
The White Room, 138 Green Street, Worcester, Massachusetts
Free Admission
Featured Artist: Cesar Rodrigues will showcase a variety of his artwork, including six pieces created from the prototype built by Easterseals Massachusetts and two original hand-poured paintings. Other artist works will also be on display.
Attendees of the November 10 Art Exhibit will be entered to win a free artist proof from Cesar!
If you can't make the exhibit you can support this fundraiser by purchasing raffle tickets through the form below.
Why Cesar is conducting this fundraiser:
In 2019, Easterseals Massachusetts built a prototype machine for Cesar, allowing him to continue painting. A progressive genetic disease was steadily weakening his ability to manipulate paint without assistive technology. Easterseals saw a need—and an opportunity. The original prototype—a combination of custom-made software and robotics—was an early approach to creating machines that allow all artists with limited mobility to make art.
The original machine was built in partnership between Cesar and specialists at Easterseals’ Assistive Technology Department. However, software and robotics technology have progressed long since that prototype. Now it’s time to take what Cesar and Easterseals learned together and make it more broadly accessible.
Artwork sales for Untitled 25 will support the Easterseals Massachusetts Assistive Technology Maker Lab in developing the software and robotics to be used by painters with limited mobility. Two identical new prototypes will be built, one to be used and tested by Cesar himself, and the other for the Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC).
The youth with multiple disabilities residing there will have a new opportunity, and capacity to make art. Their experience and feedback on the new prototype will be refined by Cesar’s long experience with this technology, as an artist, and as a graduate of the PRHC.
Together, they can make art and help engineers advance technology to support creativity in populations with disabilities.
Purchasing raffle tickets or Limited Edition print supports:
Research and development of advanced assistive technology for painting
Collaborating with engineers on the requisite software and robotics
New opportunities for artmaking and creative expression for children at the PRHC
And the continuation of a great artistic career.
Support this fundraiser by purchasing a Limited Edition print of Untitled 25:
Limited Edition Prints:
Fine Art Paper: $70 (9”x15”) - 210 prints available
Fine Art Paper: $151 (14”x24”) - 160 prints available
Fine Art Paper: $210 (20”x34”) - 70 prints available
Exclusive Limited Edition Prints:
Fine Art Paper: $1,200 (36"x60" = actual size of original painting) - 7 canvas prints available
Note: Those who purchase a canvas print will secure one of the first seven commissions using the new painting machine upon its completion.
Purchases will be printed and shipped to order, with no additional charge. Supporters will also receive:
Personalized thank-you notes and updates
Early access to the artwork created with the new prototypes
Each ticket helps Cesar and Easterseals Massachusetts ensure artists with disabilities have the tools and resources to express themselves fully. Learn more about the artist.

Raffle ends November 10, 2024, and the winner will be drawn on November 11.

About:
Deep within the heart of downtown Worcester, amidst the bustling cityscape, lies the clandestine lair known only to a select few – The Poet's Cauldron. What appears to be an unassuming venue by day transforms into a sanctuary of artistic alchemy as night descends. Legend has it that The Poet's Cauldron was discovered by BrujaTheVillain during a serendipitous exploration of the city's hidden corners. Beneath the surface of ordinary life, they stumbled upon a forgotten space, an old warehouse with echoes of forgotten tales and the scent of ancient magic lingering in the air. With a stroke of their creative wand, BrujaTheVillain breathed life into this hidden gem, turning it into a haven for poets, artists, and those who sought the elixir of inspiration. The space became a cauldron of creativity, bubbling with the potent concoction of spoken words, visual arts, and the enchantment of live performances. The entrance, obscured by the veil of ordinary reality, leads those initiated into the realm of The Poet's Cauldron. Once inside, guests find themselves surrounded by an otherworldly ambiance – dimly lit by the glow of mystical symbols and adorned with tapestries that tell tales of forgotten epochs. The stage, the epicenter of this creative sanctum, serves as a portal where words transcend mere language, transforming into spells that captivate the audience. The air is thick with the energy of expression, and the audience becomes part of a secret society, bound by the shared experience of witnessing the birth of art. As each monthly gathering unfolds, The Poet's Cauldron becomes a beacon for those who seek refuge from the mundane, a secret lair where the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary. It's a place where poets become sorcerers, artists become alchemists, and the audience becomes witnesses to the magic woven within the words. The legend of The Poet's Cauldron grows with each passing month, whispered among the artistic circles as a space where creativity knows no bounds. And in the heart of downtown Worcester, this secret lair continues to be a testament to the transformative power of art, a refuge for those who dare to explore the depths of their imagination.

Read more below about Cliff Notez and their legacy.
Prolific collaborator and award-winning multimedia artist Cliff Notez seamlessly manifests a mix of hip hop, jazz, folk, soul and R&B that’s been likened to “Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, blended with the paranoia of Radiohead’s Kid A.”
Their music reveals the repercussions of trauma, exposes the realities of the Black experience, and shares an intimate journey towards healing. Heavy lyrical themes are often juxtaposed with uplifting sounds: bright horns, sparkling keys, snappy percussion and glowing guitar riffs. Cliff’s art is the perfect visual accompaniment for all of these themes, creating work that is both emotionally challenging while layered with colorful, playful imagery.
Cliff Notez’s work has caught the attention of publications like The New York Times, NPR, The Boston Globe, and Boston Herald, among others and have garnered shoutouts from the likes of Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley. They performed at Boston Calling Music Festival in 2022 and have previously shared the stage with Ja Rule and Gym Class Heroes. Cliff Had their first solo art Exhibition at the Dorchester Art Project in 2020, then Followed it up with a solo show at FPAC assemblage in 2022 on the Boston’s Seaport.
It’s no surprise Uproxx dubbed Cliff “one of the most remarkable music figures in Boston,” as their influence extends far beyond the hip hop scene. Passionate about social justice and amplifying Black stories, Cliff Notez has worked hard to give back to their local community and to lobby for inclusion. Currently an Assistant Professor at the Berklee College of Music and Tufts University—and having previously taught at Harvard, MIT, Emerson, and Northeastern University—Notez shares their industry expertise in college classrooms teaching classes on ranging from Song-Writing to Film-Making.
As the founder of digital media company HipStory, Cliff Notez brought hip hop to one of the largest art museums in the world. Their programming for the Late Nite series at the Museum of Fine Arts created an opportunity for rappers to perform at one of Boston’s most prestigious institutions—giving the genre access to cultural conversations it is often left out of.
Cliff Notez was named “Best Musician” and one of the “100 Most Influential Bostonians” by Boston Magazine, and listed among the “50 Most Influential Bostonians” by Boston Common Magazine. With over 11 Boston Music Award nominations and as the winner of “Song of the Year” in 2020 and the coveted “Best New Artist” award in 2018, Cliff Notez continues to be a central figure of the Boston arts’ scene.
In 2023 Cliff Notez embarks on an sonically adventurous release schedule of 5 singles that pave the intro for his next opus, All Us in Wonderland, beginning with the first track “Could Be Normal” on Feb. 14th that calls back to the lyrical delivery of Outkast and the wonderment of Prince.

Presentation and discussion with three iconic AURA artists!
2:00 pm, TED LILLEY: “Painting in Three Dimensions”
'During my professional life as materials scientist I was always interested in innovation. For example at St Gobain/Norton I led an R and D group seeking to create new or improved high tech ceramic materials for medical application, eg replacement hip joints. Once my scientific work came to an end I slowly became an artist but always thinking of innovation for the process art I was developing. This has led me to make my paintings three dimensional, flat no more.
The deformed paper on which I paint catches the light simultaneously at all kind of different angles. the optical effect can be spectacular when the colors unite to form a coherent whole.'

The Ed Melikian Ensemble :::
Ed Melikian is an oudist and vocalist specializing in the music of the near and middle east. He has toured throughout the United States and abroad and has been performing and recording professionally for well over 6 decades. Before releasing his latest recording featuring his own band, The Ed Melikian Ensemble, Ed recorded several albums with many of the top musicians and singers in the World Music genre. His repertoire consists of authentic music of Armenian, Greek, Turkish, Arabic and Israeli cultures, melded together with western, jazz-flavored improvisational flare. In the mid to late 1970's, Ed appeared on 3 of George Abdo's belly dance albums. Over the years The Ed Melikian Ensemble has featured some very talented musicians. The current band has Gary Kashmanian on dumbeg – an hourglass-shaped drum, Bruce Gigarjian on guitar, master musician Mal Barsamian on clarinet, and Ed on the oud, an ancient stringed instrument first discovered in Persia in the 7th century that predates all other stringed instruments. Ed is also the featured Oudist on four CD's released by the 9-piece Folk/Rock/Jazz/Indie group, Jubilee Gardens, and was featured on Ryan Flaherty's Hungry Moon CD as well as the group, Hat On Drinking Wine’s CD Plastic Flowers.
Ed has released two cd's of his own: (1) The Ed Melikian Ensemble UNVEILED featuring Mal Barsamian on Alto Sax; (2) Homage to Leon featuring the late Leon Manoogian on dumbeg. Ed can be reached by email at: oudplayer@hotmail.com

Originally from Kokomo, Indiana - Toussaint was brought up as the son of a Pastor and Choir Director; blessed with a style and cadence that spans many genres which are deeply rooted in gospel. In a perfect symbiosis with his vocals, he is also masterfully skilled in playing the djembe, which is woven into every performance and gives the audience a glimpse into his meditation with rhythm from his ancestors.
He quickly made a name for himself, initially fronting the band Red Pill, then The China band. In 2010, he made waves in the reggae scene when he wrote and released a solo album called Black Gold, from IGrade Records in St. Croix.

-- About The Hip Swayers
Hailing from the hills of West Tatnuck, the Hip Swayers are a good time, get up and dance band. Their music combines tight rhythms, searing solos and soulful harmonies in an eclectic mix of catchy originals, old time country, and twangy, reverb-soaked surf that keeps your toes tapping and your hips swaying.
Dave Blodgett, vocals and guitar
It's been said that Dave was born singing. True or not, Dave's passion and versatility can be heard belting out tunes from The Louvin Brothers, Johnny Cash, Lefty, Hank, and the Merles, as well as his own carefully crafted compositions. His finger-picking guitar style echoes that of the great Merle Travis.
Toni Ostrow, bass and vocals
Post-punk proto-grunge thrasher turned roots rock devotee, Toni holds down the bottom that drives the band. Her interpretations of Patti Smith and Melba Montgomery tunes and her own Kerouac inspired lyrics contribute to the band's eclectic repertoire.
Dave Niles, guitar, slide, lap steel
A legend in his own mind, Dave is a master of many styles and techniques, some of them even noteworthy. Hailing from Boston (or New Hampshire, we're not really sure), he grew up listening to Clyde Joy, Rex Trailer, Ricky Nelson and anything British.
Mark Cherrington, drums
Mark has blessed stages from Beantown to Buffalo and Omaha to Santa Fe. His relentless pursuit of the perfect backbeat can be heard on any given night, even when he's relaxing at home. A westerner at heart (he lives somewhere in the Pioneer Valley), his playing conjures up dusty roads, cattle drives and the wide open prairie on the outskirts of Amherst.
